About the game

A small constraint with room for a lot of words.

Wordaround is an independent word game by Josh Adams. It starts with one clear idea: lock two letters into place, then see how many different words can be made without moving them.

Why Wordaround

Wordaround gives you two locked letters, then turns you loose to spell any word that fits around them. That simple constraint creates the boundary; vocabulary, pattern recognition, and a little experimentation do the rest.

The game is designed for a short daily ritual rather than an endless feed. A four-minute round is enough time to find a rhythm, chase one more word, and then get on with the day. Practice is there when you want another round.

At the end of every game, Wordaround reveals every possible word and marks the ones you found. The words you missed become part of the payoff: new vocabulary to learn and word patterns to recognize the next time they appear.

Built around a few principles

The puzzle comes first

No ads interrupt a round. Visual themes, music, sound, and haptics support the game and can be reduced or turned off when they do not. Optional tips are available through Support Wordaround on the web and in the iOS app.

Private by default

The web edition has no accounts, advertising identifiers, or analytics. History, streaks, settings, and paused games live in the browser. Public leaderboard submission is optional and uses only the handle and result a player chooses to share.

The iOS App Store privacy label reports that the native app does not collect data.

Native and web, each on purpose

The iPhone and iPad edition adds Progressive Mode, Game Center, haptics, and notifications. The web edition is immediately playable on desktop and Android as well as Apple devices, with keyboard support, local history, offline installation, and its own account-free Daily leaderboard.
